Today the church remembers Timothy and Titus, and then rather spoils it by labelling them “Companions of Paul”.
Yes, they were companions of Paul, but they were much, much more. They were leaders of churches in their own right, working in a dangerous time to bring the Gospel to their neighbours. They had to face prejudice (ageism and racism), congregations who were uncooperative at times, theological disputes and pretty much all the other issues that church leaders face today. All this against a background of looming persecution.
Yes they were companions of Paul, but far more importantly, they were companions of God. Wouldn’t this be a better way to commemorate them?
