Today the Church of England remembers Hugh Latimer, one time Bishop of Worcester, who was burned at the stake on this day in 1555 during the persecution of Protestants by Mary I.
The futility and stupidity of killing people because of differences in religious belief is a lesson our world desperately needs to relearn.
