Today the church celebrates the Conception (possibly even the Immaculate Conception) of the Blessed Virgin Mary.

Why today?
Well, for the perfectly obvious reason that it’s nine months before the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary on September 9th.

Don’t ask the next question.
Or the one after that.

It’s the kind of day that must have Richard Dawkins chortling over his cornflakes and reaching for his pen.

This window is in St. Bartholomew’s church, Porthleven, Cornwall.

Porthleven is one of my favourite places in the world, but the church has normally been locked when I’ve visited, except this once when someone was doing some repairs inside, so I snuck in.
