From the Gospel reading at holy Communion:
In those days Mary set out and went with haste to a Judean town in the hill country, where she entered the house of Zechariah and greeted Elizabeth.
(Luke 1:39-40, NRSV)
I wonder what prompted Mary’s decision to go to Elizabeth. How much was a desire to be with her relative and how much to escape the wagging tongues and hostile stares of scandalised neighbours?
And which side would we have been on?
